Basically, Karate consists of three related areas:

  1. Training of the body to include flexibility, strength, endurance and speed.
  2. Training of the mind to include intense concentration, awareness, emotional discipline, confidence and stress management.
  3. Training in self-defense to include timing, distancing, accuracy, techniques of blocking, counter attacking and the physiological principles of competition and practical self-defense.

These traits are developed through a series of exercises which include kata or forms, kumite (prearranged fighting), drill, bunkai (kata application) and much more. All of these assist each student to become confident, self-controlled and physically conditioned.
